This month, I have been leading my son Stephen’s Cub Scouts Webelos group in completing the requirements for their Citizenship Badge.
They have learned the Constitutional rights and legal duties of a US citizen.
They have learned about what it means to be a good citizen .
They have learned the names of the President, VP, Governor, and Mayor, the history and meaning of the US Flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the National Anthem.
And they have learned the proper way to raise and lower and fold the US Flag.
They witnessed the solemnity of the Flag retirement ceremony at our November campout.
One of this Board’s Core Commitments is that SBISD will graduate well rounded students who are prepared for active participation in the American democracy.
I believe that Scouting does a wonderful job of ensuring that this goal is met.
Tonight, the Webelos are completing their final requirement to complete the Citizenship Badge by attending a meeting of their local government.
It is therefore my honor to introduce the Webelo Scouts of Pack 525 who will perform tonight’s flag ceremony.
