Senate Bill 175 Passes Out of the Senate: Senator Shapiro's Bill Limits the Top 10% Rule to 60% of the Incoming Freshman Class

Senate Bill 175 (SB 175) by Senator Shapiro just passed out of the Texas Senate and will now go to the Texas House for consideration.

SB 175 changes the controversial Top 10% Rule to limit the requirement to a maximum of 60% of the incoming freshman class at Texas state universities.  (This year, 81% of the incoming freshman class at the University of Texas was mandated by the Top 10% Rule).

While Spring Branch has advocated the elimination of this Rule, the limitation contained in SB 175 is a good first step.

SB 175 will now go to the Texas House for consideration.
